Born in Jamaica and raised in Canada, my passion for wrestling was sparked by the Saturday morning ritual of watching pro wrestling with my grandmother, Grandma Blake. While she believed the action was real, I was still unsure, but that uncertainty led me to start wrestling in grade nine at Chinguacousy High School in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. I continued to wrestle throughout my college years and represented Canada in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1999 Pan-American Games.
I moved from Canada to Dallas, Texas in 1999 and in 2014 I founded Future Champs of Texas, originally as a wrestling club. Our commitment to the sport and the youth in our community led us to expand our offerings to include boxing, and today we proudly operate as Future Champs Wrestling and Boxing Club. Our club follows the dungeon-style approach, using wrestling and boxing not only as sports but as powerful tools for social development, helping to keep the youth off the streets.
When I first got into boxing, I was getting into a lot of trouble at school, so my Uncle Berry challenged me to take up boxing. He paid for it and everything, so I felt obligated to give it a valid try. I ended up being good at it. From that point, former world champion Curtis Cokes took an interest in me and took me under his wing, training me every day. I became a three-time Dallas heavyweight Golden Gloves champion. Now, I am coaching Future Champs of Texas Boxing and Wrestling Club.
